Living Room Dates

During this last month and a half, dates with my husband have mainly consisted of reheating lasagna at 375 degrees and changing dirty diapers together. We have gone from regularly dining out and watching movies on the weekend, to being ridiculously excited about clean sheets and being in bed by 9.
Last night however, we relived our glory days and we went on a date. Last night my husband and I went on date...in our living room! And let me tell you; it was one of the best dates we've ever had together.
I started off the day at the grocery store picking up all the essentials. We had decided on doing a wine pairing theme, so I picked out an array of cheeses, meats, fruits, and chocolates.

Will and I both love to cook and be in the kitchen together so we incorporated that into our date. Our menu consisted of crab cakes, bruschetta, filet mignon, smoked salmon, and prosciutto, along with several different cheeses. With the UT game on in the not-so-distant background, we got to work. I was in charge of the crab cakes, aioli, and slicing cheese, while Will took on the bruschetta and filet mignon.

We had to pause to comfort a crying baby and praise dance when Trent Domingue made the game winning kick (hook'em horns!), but being in the kitchen together again, making fresh and somewhat challenging dishes felt good. And I have to say, when it was all said and done, the spread looked freaking delicious.

Not only did all the food look delicious, but it tasted amazing too! What was even better, was that we got to enjoy all of it from the comfort of our living room couch. Hulu provided the entertainment with the movie 'Love and Mercy' (which we HIGHLY recommend) and our less than business casual attire was completely acceptable. We ate way too much great food, we laughed, we said 'I love you', and we simply enjoyed being together.
You don't have to be in a fancy restaurant, a dimly lit movie theater, or out on the town to be on a date. You don't have to be dressed up or spend a bunch of money to have a good time with your significant other. There is no recipe for a perfect date night. But a living room with food and the one you love is a pretty good place to start.
