No Good Thing

Have you ever felt super hungry? Like that knotting in your stomach and constant gurgling hungry? Or have you ever felt extremely thirsty? Thirsty to the point where your mouth felt like it was full of cotton and the rest of your body actually ached? What about being so tired you physically could not keep your eyes open, no matter how hard you tried?

Let's be real. We need food. We need water. We need sleep. But we need so much more than just the basics to living.

We need to feel loved and know someone has our back. We need time to ourselves and we need people we can talk to about anything. We need music and we need quiet. We need a place that we call home and we need a place to get away from it all. We need a purpose. And sometimes, we need to be rescued.

"The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and He rescues them. Taste and see that the Lord is good. How happy is the man who takes refuge in Him! You who are His holy ones, fear Yahweh, for those who fear Him lack nothing. Young lions lack food and go hungry, but those who seek the Lord will not lack any good thing"

-Psalm 34:7-10

The Lord is good; He will RESCUE us and we will lack NOTHING. He is faithful. God doesn't promise to give us everything we think is good, but He will not withhold what is permanently good from us.

"For the Lord is a sun and shield; The Lord bestows favor and honor, no good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly"

-Psalm 84:11

Alyssa Joy wrote on this same topic a few years ago, and her words far surpass any that I could ever come up with. In a blog post from 2013 she writes:

"Wherever you are right now, that is His best for you. He is fulfilling His very purpose for you, today. Wherever you find yourself today, if you are walking close to Jesus, than God is withholding no good thing from you."

I find pure joy in the fact that I have EVERYTHING God knows I need in my life right now. Nothing more, nothing less. And how awesome is it, that as time goes on and I find myself in different places or situations, God meets me in those spaces and provides what I need then too?

What a testament to God's character...Rescuer, Healer, Giver.
